Week 287

Cheers, my friends. I left a voice memo for a friend yesterday that I haven't quite synthesized. I don't think she likes cooking, but has found herself needing/wanting to come up with simple dinners for the week. We have thousands of recipes here, and yet, I still have a hard time referring to SKCC as the perfect resource for a beginner cook. I assume you know what tamari is or where to find miso and that to some extent, you can figure out how to make a Dutch oven recipe in your slow cooker or vice versa. Nothing here is complicated, but it's still just a lot. Anyway, I was suggesting she parse out the days - Monday is vegetarian, Tuesday is tacos, Wednesday is soup, Thursday is pasta - then you slip in recipes within those bounds. Looking at the entire internet for food ideas is overwhelming, but deciding if this fine Tuesday you'll make the gringo ground beef tacos like you know from childhood, or maybe try your hand at some roasted cauliflower al pastor, gives some bumpers to those of us overwhelmed with dinner. Anyway, without blabbing on too long, I just wanted to affirm you that making dinner all the time is a lot of work, and I'm impressed with you. You feed your people; and the shopping and prep and serving and thinking is no small thing. I continue to want to make this space more practical, so if you're still reading this, I hope you know I always welcome feedback. Hugh is redesigning the site to run more like some hybrid between NYT Cooking and this, where the search component will be incredibly more efficient and it will hopefully make this program more sustainable for both of us. I'm excited to share more with you in April (fingers crossed!). Anyway. Lots of thoughts, but I'm glad you're here and I'm so proud of you for making all those dinners! Big hugs.

Have a lovely weekend. Can't believe I ended up with a full meatloaf on here, I fought it for many years because they're ugly, but turns out one our families friends loves it so I've found us a meatloaf household as of late. Curious what you think of it ;)
